My Insurance Approval After Two Denials
It was like a miracle come true but with a lot of hard work behind it
It took me three months and two denials to get approved for my liposuction surgery. I took all the right steps and still came away with two denials. That’s how hard it is to get insurance approval for something insurance doesn’t cover and has no contracting providers who provide that medical need.
An assigned case manager is critical for your success
This is where I emphasize getting a nurse case manager from your insurance assigned to you before you start the preauthorization process. Even if your insurance has plan language for Liposuction surgery for Lipedema and even if they have a surgeon in their network. If there was one piece of advice I’d give anyone, it would be to get a case manager before you do anything else!
The insurance case manager will be your personal connection and advocate as you work on your approval. They are your lifeline.
I should also mention if you do NOT LIKE your case manager, for whatever reason (isn’t helpful, not timely in responding to you, does not seem to be making any effort to advocate for your surgery, or even if you just aren’t feeling it) you can ask your insurance for another CM. Typically there are tens, maybe hundreds (depending on the size of your insurance) of case managers. Advocate for yourself first, and don’t be shy. You don’t need to worry about hurting feelings because insurance doesn’t have feelings. Haha.
