Hi Everyone,

I’m very far behind in giving you my process of getting approved for Lipedema surgery. I apologize.

The first part of my year has been rough, to say the least. Not only was I working on getting my Lipedema under control, but my mother died in January. The stress of this made my Lipedema worse (as if it could get worse!).

I had to grieve the loss of my mom and be there for my family with their loss, too, manage my mother’s estate, and continue to work my shifts that require sitting for long periods of time. All of these things flared my inflammation, fatigue, and pain. I was miserable. And very scared.

I had to prioritize my life, so I stopped working at the hospital and stopped doing all the things that you never think about; cooking, cleaning, errands, grocery shopping…stuff like that.

Instead, I did a lot of sleeping and a lot of self-care. I spent entire days in bed with my lymph machine on, working to decrease my inflammation. I slowed down so much that it looked like I stopped everything.

But stopping my ‘everything’ was not essential to keep my life going. I

needed to be placed on the back burner. I just couldn’t do it.

I’m feeling much better now, but it took months of aggressive self-management to get here. And I thank you for your patience if you’ve continued following me.

I will start catching you up on my surgery preauthorization process. This is the reason why I started “Lipedema and Me”; I want to help women get the treatment they deserve.

Before we move forward, here’s a spoiler:

My surgeries and my out-of-network surgeon have all been approved as covered and in-network!

This is a huge win, not just for me but for the future of Lipedema women who need surgery. Every lipectomy reduction surgery that gets approved is one step closer to having this considered mainstream and seeing Lipedema as a well-known medical condition that’s recognized in our society.
